Many people don’t love mathematics, some as a whole and some partially. Math has been presented as a hard subject that to excel one needs to struggle. Fear has been placed in junior students because of how some topics have been expressed as hard by the senior students. Some people don’t love math because the teachers who teach that subject have been presented as harsh and strict to their students. To make the subject look interesting and applicable, solutions need to be drafted to deal with the misconceptions already in place. Math becoming an interesting subject can be achieved by applying the things below.
The teachers should make their lessons interesting to motivate their students. When students enjoy their lesson and feel part of it, then a spirit of math is birthed in them. Confidence in the students to participate in class by answering questions can come because of this. Due to the openness developed in the students, they answer the questions freely not afraid of making mistakes and this helps the teacher to know areas a student is strong in and areas that they need help in. Questions will be freely asked in the class because the teacher has created a free environment to relate with the student, this enables the teacher to know the topics that need to be repeated. Improvement in performance both for an individual student’s in such an environment is easy to achieve.
From an early age, children should be introduced to math through math programs for kids so that from a young age they can learn to enjoy the subject. This will help do away with the misconceptions that are have been expressed about math at a young age hence enabling the kid not to form a hate attitude towards the subject. Playing games to bring out a math concept makes the math programs interactive. Since they participated in it, it makes it easy for them to remember what they learned. Also, the kids should learn to answer questions with boldness so that they cannot live doubting their answers. Since the confidence to answer and ask questions was built at an early stage it will help them in their senior studies.
The practical part of the subject should be introduced during the lessons. Some students keep on questioning where they will apply the knowledge they gain in the real world. Creating a sense of purpose for the subject comes through a clear outlining of the application part in the real world.
